King Kong Armature - Looking for Dimensions

$
0
0
I was wondering if anyone knows the height of the original King Kong armature (that is Bob Burns's, Peter Jackson's, or the Sideshow armature). I know 18" gets tossed around a lot, but I'm not sure if they're measuring Kong while leaning forward as he naturally does, or if they're measuring him with his back and legs completely straight. I'd like to find out his height when his back and legs are straightened out, as that would be useful information for anyone looking to make a Kong in the same scale as the original puppet, regardless if it uses an accurate armature.

I've been thinking about making a display of Kong, where his armature will just be wire and the parts where his skin is showing (head, hands, chest, feet) will be sculpted in clay, molded, and cast in resin. It wouldn't really be able to move around, but at least it'd last longer than a puppet with rubber skin.

Thanks!

Instructions for Nielsen/Salzo snowspeeder

Hi,

I was seeing if anyone here would happen to know where
i could obtain instructions to build this snowspeeder kit? An
online pdf would be good but I haven’t come up with anything
doing a google search.

It’s pretty self explanatory where most of the bits go but I didn’t think
that there would be so many little parts too. But man is this kit huge!

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated :)

cheers!

The Evil Dead 1:25 Cabin & Workshed area scale model

This is Rob from the UK Evil Dead fansite BookOfTheDead.ws, I started work on a 1:25 scale model of The Evil Dead cabin back in February, and it's take me 14 weeks but I just completed it yesterday. I do build projects regularly, but this is my first scale model. It's not built for anything specific, beyond making it for myself. Anyone who wants to read a write-up and see extensive build photos can take a look at this page;

http://www.bookofthedead.ws/website/...ale_model.html

Below you can see photos of the finished scale model. The first eight photos are night-lit, and the rest daytime. With a model like this, there is really no end to the amount of work you can put into it, the amount of fine detail you can add. I'd never intended to do the inside, or the cellar, but they're both possibilities should I ever re-visit this project.

X-1 Advanced TIE HELP

Alright RPF I need your help. So as I make progress on my SS TIE Fighter (slowly) I've decided to build a X-1 TIE fighter as well. I'm stuck on a few parts that I can't seem to figure out. So I'm asking the great minds of the Studio Scale section to help me identify the parts that have me stumped. I'm posting four pictures with the parts I can't find highlighted and numbered. #16 looks like it's the wood slats off of a stake bed but I could be very wrong. Thanks for any help.

Salzo V5 X-wing build: Red Leader

$

Hi all,

Over the long holiday weekend, I found myself with a few spare hours, so I started playing with one of my Salzo V5’s. In all honesty, I really didn’t start out to build anything...I was playing with the armature, and decided to see how it fit into the fuselage. Hours later, I wound up with what looks like the start of a build. Funny how that happens.

I took a spare belt from my tabletop belt sander, cut it so I had a long, continuous strip of sandpaper, and adhesed it to a piece of flat, thick glass. I sanded the mating surfaces of the fuse, so that the upper and lower halves fit almost perfectly. Only took a few strokes on the paper for each half. There is one small area right below the cockpit that will need a thin bead of filler for it to be a perfect fit.
Then, the cavity for the armature. Again, only a little sanding here to make the armature fit perfectly, and open/close fully without interference.

Had to mill out a slot underneath the droid strip, so that the armature tension screws, and engine light wiring can be accessed. While I was at it, I drilled some holes for some rare earth magnets, to hold the droid strip in place. I ‘recycled’ an old metal cigar tin, cut it in strips, and glued it to the bottom of the droid strip. Something for the magnets to grab onto. The rear hole for the magnet needs a little cleanup, but a spot of putty should make it look presentable.

Next thing i knew, I was sanding the inside of the fuse to fit the cockpit. It needs a little more work to get it to fit just right, but I’m getting close. It needs to sit up a little higher in the fuse, but a little more work should get it to fit all the way forward and a little higher.

Although I’m a long way from gluing anything together yet (other than the metal underneath the droid strip), the fusealage is starting to look a little like an X-wing. If the weather cooperates next weekend, I’ll take the wing parts outside and begin sanding and cleaning them up.

Mods, if I'm breaking the rules Please let me know but don't hesitate to take it down.

My friend is selling off his father's massive Star Trek collection and doesn't know what to do with a lot of this stuff. He asked me to reach out here because I know a lot of modelers and build them myself. Believe me, if I have room, this thing would be mine.

Here is the listing.

It is for a 46" long DeBoers Hulls U.S.S. Enterprise. I figured you guys might want to know about it.

Again, if I'm violating any rules, let me know.

Thanks.

ANH TIE Fighter Decals

I'm looking at the intricate decals that were placed on the eFx version of the ANH TIE fighter

...but I'm not finding a reference photo that shows any of the decals.
There is a screen cap that does some minor details:

But either there are missing decals, they are placed differently or there just isn't enough resolution going on in this photo to tell any thing for sure.

From what I'm seeing (starting from top to bottom) there is no decal at the top, near the middle there is a small red decal, but it's placed farther to the
right, and the lower decal is actually just two rows of white lettering instead of three.

Does any one have a better reference photo from ANH or am I correctly seeing where the decals should be (or not be)?

The Death Star Tile Project

$

I've started working on recreating the Death Star Tiles from Star Wars. Not sure what the end use will be, possible recreate them at Studio Scale, possibly at other scales for other uses.

The first step is to computer model the tiles with all the details. The files can then be used to CNC, laser cut, 3D print or create patterns for hand fabricating the tiles. The models are based on a variety of reference materials including photos and scans of the original tiles and also the display base tiles Bandai includes in some of their kits.

Here are the computer models for the first tile which is finished. The second and third are in progress.

Wanted - 1:6th scale Airwolf helmets

Hi all, I am building a 1:5th scale Airwolth RC Helicopter as I couldn't get 1:6 scale but am using 1:6th scale figures, so, I thought I would ask if anyone has either made any or could possibly make any of the helmets to go with my figures?
I don't see any 3d printable files and my experience with my 3d printers is I hate them so,
Any info would be very much appreciated, Cheers,

After spending the better part of a year building this kit, Gold Leader is finally finished. I just received it back from the painter today, our own Akumazeto. He used Archive X paints to create a somewhat less dirty version of Gold Leader...sort of Rogue One-ish, exactly as I had envisioned this model.

For those of you who are ‘painting challenged’, like me, and need a high quality paint job on a model, I highly recommend talking to Akumazeto (Ben). Great guy to work with, reasonably priced, and keeps you well informed about the whole process.
Outstanding job, Ben!!! Thank you!

Here is a quick shot of it out of the shipping case. I’ll take some ‘glamour shots’ of it this weekend, as well as post some pics of the build.

Thanks again, Ben, and thanks to the rest of you for looking.

While my TIE and X-Wing SS projects remain in their years-long barely-started state, I embark on something fun and off the wall (and I'm sayin' commercials count. ;))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyhD...&frags=pl%2Cwn

I am very far along and will document the build in subsequent posts below, but for starters I need some extra eyes on the only parts of this thing that do not come from the MPC Falcon:

1/2 and 7/8 are obviously matched pairs, and if I'm lucky, all that detail is part of each donor piece and they aren't assemblies.
3/4 seem to be separate parts, though. And 9 could be two or more parts. 3 could very well be a part of a metal hinge or bracket, and not a model part at all. Easily scratched, though, if need be. 9 could be mocked up with no fuss as well.

Anything look familiar?

Vader TIE Advanced Reference Pics

Hey all,

I’ve been building the Nice-N X-1 and pouring over Jason’s reference pics on Modeler Magic. Does anyone have addition reference?

Specifically I’m looking for pics of these inner sections. The Nice-N kit I have appears to only have one of the details, but I’m trying to either ID or scratch build some of the others.

Thanks!
