X-Wing Salzo V4 Red-2 Build

I have to admit that when I first received this kit I was a bit scared I would screw it up. Although this is not my first SS build it is my first SS X-Wing build. I got lucky and got on Mike's list for one of these early and received it back in November. I researched threads for a couple of months before I even glued or sanded my first piece. Thank you JunkPilot for your "One Stop X-Wing Thread".

I knew I wanted to do Red-2 because I always liked the contrast of yellows and the amount of detail that was on it. Also, whether it's in it's Blue-1 form or Red-2 form, it was the first X-Wing and Wedge was always my favorite as a kid and a super bad ass. When Mike said that his kits were going to be customized, as far as the phantom engines and engine combo, I was all in. There is a wealth of Red-2 reference out there, but not a lot of high res close-up detailed shots.

Well after a long break and some up and downs it looks like this is a go again ... Sadly Rob doesn't want to complete the amazing work we did and fare enough like this hobby does from time to time it bites you and it bends you.... but heh its just plastic and glue so not really life or death and with that its time to get rocking again.

I've a fully working armature to start and go through the process of having the new solve made into bucks...just time, and that I have plenty of now.

What a shame as we were so close, when you have what what was one of the coolest models ever ready to rock and it goes west, then you can just move forward and try to get what you want.....

Who wouldn't want a Slave 1 scratch build ,hence V4 and another attempt at lifting the curse..... gives me a bit of time to get the cockpit nailed :-), that back corner aint getting away with it whilst I'm alive!!!

Sorry we couldn't offer the sets to those that wanted it, and I'd like to thank Rob for the "extremely" hard work he put into it with me, but ya roll with the punches sometimes....and it just got too much personally to deal with.

Looking forward to Slave 1 Nieson Kit builds whilst this takes life again. Cant get enough of this beast...literally :-)

Yet Another X-Wing Build

Ok, I'm late to the party, but I've been preparing for a long time. I've had an obsession with the X-wing since I was a teenager (a long, long time ago...), and I, like many others have wanted a truly accurate model of my own. I've messed around with this ever since finding the RPF in 2001, buying up a lot of old kits, contributing what little knowledge or insight I could (very little I'm embarrassed to say), and methodically working towards actually making something...

I figured it's about time to show where I'm at, garner some critical input, and make faster progress to completing this!

I started doing small build experiments, but that got expensive after I trimmed away expensive parts, only to realize I needed to re-do the work. To prevent any more expensive experiments, and enhance the overall accuracy, I decided to methodically build all of the greeblies, and everything else in CAD. I've been at it for about a year and a half now, and I'm really pleased with the results so far. I'm figuring after all of this I'll have a great database to build a 1/12th scale version! Hopefully by then, I can afford a good 3d printer with a large build volume:p

Here's some renderings of how it's looking so far. The wings are all but done, and I'm currently working on the droid strip. The fuselage is a stand in for now. Based on what I'm learning from the wings and droid strip, I'll need to make some modifications to its length. Yes, those are Red 5 markings. I'm trying as best I can to match its unique details.

I've also been trying perspective matching of my work to the reference I have. This has helped me make a lot of critical decisions.

I hope you enjoy! More to come.

Well seeing how popular this kit has become so far, I thought maybe we should start a new thread and consolidate all the great information and various other links to detailed parts as they come in in one place for all of us to enjoy and share. I'll attempt to keep all the most valuable links on this top post for all those that need it or want it so far. Join in and let us know where you're from if you've already purchased the subscription to it. If you still have no idea what this is here's a video about what it's all about:

Yes, this kit has providence back to the original 32" inch filming studio model.

Now if that doesn't spark your fire, here's a link from their website video about it:

Now, that should have got your juices pumping. The website for ordering this "hunk of junk" is located here:

http://www.model-space.com/us/build-...um-falcon.html

It's a weekly magazine subscription, you are getting a pack of parts with every issue and there are 100 issues total. Making the subscription last for 25 months total. Each month you receive 4 issues at once. Each issue sells for about $14.99 making each month a total of about $66.29 a month (with shipping). Since this was first issued in the UK, they are ahead of us by about 8 issues so far (I think they have received up to issue 11 if I'm not mistaken). Now so far there have been some really excellent ultra detail parts that have been created at Shapeways. Some of the internal pieces aren't as detailed as you'd expect because it's never been done before to this exacting standard (for example, the console is a sticker attached to the plastic, it's a good print, but leaves alot to be desired). So one of our fellow modelers, Tony, has come out with a bunch of 3D printed parts to fix that problem. You can find his parts here:

http://www.shapeways.com/search?q=deago

There are quite a few build logs that are being done (most from the UK builders)... here's a couple of the more informative:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN5A...SXqn5PGx9JUUW2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERHUGWQoF5I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vP4TSM_AjY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onx11IgAYzw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTsP2gBeKJ4

That should be enough information overload for today. Stay tuned happy campers and add your own links to your builds as well. If you find out more information, please feel free to post it here and if you got questions, just ask.

Here's my build log page so far:

I've been going back and forth the last few days trying to find Information on what parts were used for the wing wells and the piece that connects the upper wings arms to the wells on the Slave 1. I have attached a couple photos with the pieces in question circled, If some of you could list which kits were used for these parts or direct me somewhere with the information I have asked for, I would be grateful.

Thank You,

Rob.

TOS Galactica - PreEA Cruiser and Eagle Bash

$

Hello All,
Just completed these two Original Series Galactica Rag Tag Ships. The Pre-EA Cruiser (which later was built on to make the Eastern Alliance Destroyer), was built using most of the same kit parts as the original miniature. The paint job was meticulously replicated to the original, in both color tones as well as the "splatter" effect. This is actually a very simple replica to create.
The second ship is the "Eagle Bash", it's seen in a few episodes flying 'upside down' along side the Galactica, and 'right side up' when leaving the colonies. The colors on this are more interpretive, as the prime reference I had were the nice hi res black and white photos out there. This one is a bit more subjective in interpretation, but still came out fairly cool.
I'm working on two more, larger Rag Tags that I've not seen any recreations yet to date. More to come on that.
Thanks for looking,
Sean

So I have been looking for a 1/96 scale Saturn V and every time they come up on ebay they are snaped up by the same few people no matter how much they go for. Is this kit used in some rare studio scale build? Is it just that rare considring they come up all the time it seems like there are lots out there. Even glue bomb kits where half the pieces are missing going for $75 to a $100.00 What is up anyone know why this kit seems to be so precious to a few bidders with deep pockets. If you do not wish to comment here, but you know what is up with this send me a PM. I just need a few parts. I am starting to wonder if it is even worth my time to try and buy one of these kits.

First off this is an awesome site, such cool and inspiring stuff! So much I decided I was gonna scratch build a MF! Then all of a sudden the Deagostini midel came out and I thought hey maybe I should just build this and mod it along the way instead of just doing it all from scratch lol. Glad I did, this is an awesome model and tracking down all the little discrepancies to the original ESB Studio model is REALLY fun :) So I thought I would start a thread to share my progress and keep track of what I'm doing for myself as well! My hope is to share my work and get some Pro tips from some you more seasoned model masters! So keep in mind that I'm making this up as I go along and if you see something that looks like "the long way around" or maybe could be done in a better more accurate/efficient manner please let me know!!!

First off... that turret window, wow okay for such a detailed kit with so much ref back to the studio model I'm surprised that its glued in the wrong way, seems like prolly a communications issue with the factory that creates the parts maybe,... but its like that on the blueprint as well, oh well lets fix it!!

I decided to sand off all the little bar details and just redo it all to be a bit more accurate to the original since I had it out :) not perfect but closer for sure...

Removed all the existing details

I sanded down the thickness and added this styrene strip around the top to create a second edge ring that more closely resembles the Original, since I sanded down the thickness of the piece first I am more or less back to the original pieces thickness, at least that is my intent. Will sand this added pieces thickness down as well to bring it down a bit.
*the first time I tried this it completely failed, I then pre wrapped my strip of styrene around a magic marker and taped it there in place for about 10 mins, when I unraveled it from the marker it had a perfectly curved radius to it which was MUCH easier to line up glue around the edge keeping the inside track flush with the original.

Next I cut out little notches and fed the bars through, which really helped hold them in place while I glued them down, I also found that leaving them longer than needed REALLY helped as well as it gave me little handles to hold them with which could be snipped off later with the exacto-

ah much better!

Really excited to prime this all and see how the added detail blends in!!

Hit it with Tamiay Grey fine Primer (rattlecan) seems to work just fine, although I got a kinda fuzzy feel in a couple places I had to knock down with some 1200 grit paper, anyone know if I did something wrong or is this just something that can occur? I almost feel like its overspray drying before it hits the surface or something? Not sure, anyways buffs right down so not gonna worry about it too much...

Looks awesome! I love how all the added detail blends in and really adds alot to the over all look of the piece!! okay if I didn't mention it before I'm WAY hooked on this!!

TOS Galactica - Intercolony Bus Replica

$

Hi All,
Here is the next Original Series, Battlestar Galactica Rag Tag replica build I just finished.

This is the "Intercolony Bus". Very little references are out there that I could find, so I just basically went from the comparison picture below and one of the Apogee construction pics. I made a few minor changes for my own purposes, but for the most part it's a fairly faithful replica of the original miniature. This ship was an absolute pleasure and fun project to build. It's got a very unique characteristic that I've wanted to build for many years. The main item I noticed to get this done was realizing the round halves were from the Texaco Tanker kit, a common one used on Galactica miniatures. From there, it was pretty easy to figure out most of the other parts. I still have to add the landing gear "struts", so I'll post a few more once those are on (railgun parts).
Huge Thanks to "Dr. Theo's Skinjobs" for their help on part loans!!
Thanks for looking!

TOS Galactica - Intercolony Bus Replica

Updates on Post #14, finished with struts

Hi All,
Here is the next Original Series, Battlestar Galactica Rag Tag replica build I just finished.

Sean

Help on what kits the parts are from

34 inch Narcissus scratchbuild near studio scale I hope.

hello everyone,
here is my attempt at a studio scale Narcissus scratchbuild, I am not sure if I have got all the angles quite right as information on the Narcissus is not great and I had to work from a small set of drawing I got from the good old internet ( what would I do with out it ). anyway the models is approx 34 inches long 30 inches wide and about 10 inches deep. It took me just over three weeks to build ( I am retired with lots of time ) and was fun to do as it was not to BIG to handle as some of my other models have been in the past. All built from plastic sheet and then the various old kit bits along with a good helping of evergreen rod tube and all manner of other shapes they do. Please let me know what you think and be honest as this will help with future models and help me to improve ( I hope ) the model will soon be on display at TRANSPORT MODELS OF PRESTON LANCASHIRE soon.

regards Barrie ( the old guy )

TOS Galactica - Flat Top (in progress)

Working on this one for the next rag tag fleet model. It is not done yet, so please ignore the current paint brightness and other details. I still have to finish weathering, dulling down the overlap colors, and still have numerous parts to add before securing the section with the dome to the main base. That portion is temporarily installed, as are the "pontoons", just threw them down for these pics. It's coming along pretty good, though I did use a smaller sphere than the original, resulting in a smaller overall opening there. Most of the underside details on the main platform are pretty close to accurate to the original filming miniature. I substituted in a few places though of course. I am waiting on one more kit to arrive before I can connect the 'fuselage' to the main body. I also have to paint the entire top side with all the different colors that are part of that section. I will however be placing an exact replica of the "bridge". The real thing did not have star trek engines on it. I'll show that section once I get to final construction.
For now, enjoy this in-progress.
Big THANKS to my friends who did a great job helping with ID's and references, and also appreciation to Mr. Gary Canavo (owner of the original miniatures) and E. James Small for their references and BattleBuck pics.
Thanks,
Sean
