Space 1999 Pilot Ship

$

0
Finally finished my acurate Studio Scale 1/24th Pilot ship.
From the Space 1999 second season 2-parter "Bringers of Wonder". A
quirky little thing that really doesn't make any sense (in the episode) :-D

Very easy build and a fairly straight forward paint job. A few bumps along the way, but happy to have a 'quick kit build' for once!

Original built by Martin Bower, kit pattern by Jim Small, Engines from Mike Reader, kit resurrected by Richard Lamer, very clean, and hollow, castings by George Takacs (Timeslip), decals (and now full kits) from Alex Jackson (Century Castings).

Red Jammer v1.0

$

I was lucky enough to purchase one of Nice-N/Mike Salzo's Red Jammer kits recently.
I've decided to 'back date' it to it's original state when the original miniature was shipped to the UK to be used for building the Fullsize set piece in early 1976.
Using one of Dave G's engine armatures, an Airfix Saturn V, and Jason's greeble parts it was a simple conversion.
Thanks to the extremely clear pictures in the new Japanese Chronicles book, I'll be able to replicate the original paint job too.

Please help!

Hi. I'm new here. Years ago I built the sovereign replicas 1/650 enterprise e. I want to redo it as my model skills have increased but over time some of the decals on the kit have been damaged.

I'm looking to see if anyone has a set they can scan to me or has an extra set. Otherwise I'm going to have to enlarge sets from smaller scales.

When I worked for Greg Jein back in 1990, he had some next generation Galileo Shuttlecrafts made up for the show.
So I got 2 hulls that he was not going to use and did not get any parts for it.
So now I am going to get this one done and need help in finding the kit parts.

1701-D, 2 foot version

Heya,

Been working on this CAD model for awhile and here's the last test print of a section of the upper saucer:

This is the straight print with no processing/cleanup other than a shot of Tamiya primer. There a few minor screw-ups-with the print but nothing a very small amount of work won't fix: The model will be 1/1000, about 26" long by 19" wide. Although this will be printed at 2 foot size, it has the detailing of the ILM 6 footer.

Pretty satisfied with this, so the saucer top will be sent to the printer sometime next month.

Thanks for looking!

Y-wing decals

Much like the X-wings, some of the Y's had a few decals here and there. Many are very hard to see or even notice, but they are there.
Has anyone done much research into them? I really can't find any.

So I'm starting with Red Jammer, as I'm building that right now. Based on the Chronicles book, these are the ones I see so far.

Some of them (Red and White) are obviously a larger decal that's been chopped up. I think parts of the same decal were used on the large Falcon.

Cutting Koolshade for SS TIE. How?

What tool would work best? I bought the Koolshade 5 years ago from a member here and just unrolled it for the first time. I was surprised by how heavy and robust this stuff is, I guess I expected it to be very fragile. It's the vintage stuff and I only get one shot so any help is really appreciated. Thread on the build to come soon. I hope.

Rogue One: Partisan X-wing

Finished my first studio scale X-wing today. Decided to experiment with the little seen/deleted scenes Saw Gerrera's Partisan unit from Rogue One. Built using an old Capt. Cardboard kit that I've had for way too long in a box. Very little source material, but that also gave me some freedom to play! Also the first time I used the Tamiya Panel Line Accents for most of the weathering paint, really liked it.
Thanks to those that helped, Frank Cerney (Pilot head), Niels M. Frederiksen, Jason Eaton (decals).

Yet Another SS TIE Fighter Build

$
0
0
Well, I just barely managed to get this one finished for Wonderfest. I thought I'd share my build.

This is pretty much a straight kit build from Nice-N models with one of his machined armatures.

The wings were built using 'The Eaton Technique' documented extensively on Jason's Facebook page. Plastruct was mitre cut to the proper angles. I had problems doing this so I designed some 'TIE Mitres' in solid works that would hold my razor saw at the proper angles and hit the proper depths.

The TIE ball was a pain in the ass. I didn't sand enough clearance for the armature. Expoy'd it down and has a huge gap. A bunch of aves, a bunch of sanding, and a bunch of rescribing I managed to fix it.

I also replaced the engine tubes with brass tube to avoid light leaks.

Then on to painting. I was aiming for on screen colors. I ended up using an even mix of three citadel air paints.

And I cut myself on a bunch of vintage koolshade.

And mangled to finish the whole thing for WF

Questions and comments are welcome.
